Leather Balm
We developed this conditioner to take advantage of a ‘waste’ from the tannery and it has become our go to for boots, gloves, purses, holsters and more. Simple ingredients including sheep tallow rendered from fat removed during the tanning process, lanolin, beeswax and essential oil make this a natural and safe product that is also incredibly well suited to keeping leather hydrated, supple and with that beautiful depth you love about veg-tanned leather.
Note there are two options: a general conditioning balm and a conditioning + waterproofing balm that contains more beeswax to waterproof heavy wearing outdoor gear like boots and gloves.
And for the tallow nerds out there- the tallow for these balms is rendered from fat that is removed from the underside of the skin during the first stage of tanning. It is much softer at room temperature than tallow rendered from fat around the meat or internal (leaf) tallow. For this reason, it seems ideal to use for keeping the tanned skin/leather hydrated!
